The committee consisted of Lori Sugden (Chair), Trudy Bodak and Cheryl Woods. Discussions were held via email. The Committee received nominations for the Honours Award and Paper Award, and selected Louis Cardinal and Richard Pinnell to receive the 2002 ACMLA Honours Award.

Louis is recognized for his many contributions to the professions of archives, map archives and architecture in his work for the National Archives, including significant acquisitions of early Canadian mapping and architecture. He has lectured and published on cartographic, archival and architectural topics, and curated major map exhibits. He has been ACMLA's Publications Officer since 1991, and has chaired and participated in conference organizing committees.

Richard has made significant contributions to the profession of map librarian, and to ACMLA. He has served on the Executive as Secretary, President and Past President, as editor of the Bulletin 1981-84, and participant in and chair of several committees, including conference organizing committees. Richard has also shown leadership in the profession of map librarianship in Canada through activities in OCUL, his publications and presentations.

The committee reviewed all the papers published in Bulletins 109-112. The committee unanimously chose the one nominated paper, and had it reviewed by an external reviewer. It was decided to award the 2002 ACMLA Paper Award to "Displaying (and using) high-resolution images of maps on the world wide web," by Marcel Fortin, in ACMLA Bulletin no. 112, Fall 2001. The committee agreed that the paper made a strong contribution to both the map librarianship and archivist professions, since scanning and displaying materials from our collections is an option open to all, and that it explained both technical and policy aspects of the process. The external reviewer said: "This article … has considerable usefulness for almost everyone in my department… [and] is a clearly stated summary of the options for scanning and displaying cartographic materials over the Web."
